CEO Corner February2023

As the passionate leader of Big Brothers Big Sisters of NH, Stacy shares updates, insights, and inspiration as we work together to empower New Hampshire’s youth through mentoring.

We just wrapped up National Mentoring Month, which included a trip to Washington, DC for Capital Hill Day to meet with legislators about the power of mentoring. I had the privilege to represent BBBSNH and advocate for youth mentoring.

I have to admit though, that my favorite part of the trip was meeting, Woody, Representative Chris Pappas’s office dog! He fit right in with his shirt and tie (and even has his own business card!).

Now into February, here are three ways you can help BBBSNH share the love!
Sign up to be a mentor. Do you fish, play video games, hike, ride bikes, draw, or paint? 143 children on our waiting list are looking for a Big just like you!
Give the gift of mentoring this Valentine’s Day through our Impact Circle. Think of the people in your corner. How would your life be different if they weren’t a part of your journey? Pay it forward to ensure each child waiting for a mentor, gets one!
Get the gear! In partnership with Cloztalk, you can purchase your BBBSNH gear to bring awareness to our mission and look great while you do it!

February is Black History Month. Do you know why we celebrate this month? Dr. Carter G. Woodson who founded the ASNLH (now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History) sent out a press release in February 1926 announcing the first Negro History Week. Now known as Black History Month, Dr. Woodson wanted the month of February because the month contained the birthdays of both Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln. Did you know that BBBSNH is a JEDI-focused youth empowerment organization? Born out of JUSTICE, to create EQUITY for youth, bringing together DIVERSE communities, so that all kids can feel INCLUDED for the promise of opportunity and a better life. Big Brothers Big Sisters is and has always been focused on inspiring youth equity and empowerment to help kids reach their full potential. Our ongoing commitment to being a JEDI-focused youth empowerment organization is a top priority.

I also wanted to thank all those who took the time to thank their mentor, donate to honor their mentor, or helped support a match these past several months for our Thankful Giving Campaign. Giving is critical to our mission of serving more youth in mentoring relationships that ignite their potential!

You are appreciated. Thank you for sharing in our mission,

Stacy
