CEO Corner June 2022

As the passionate leader of Big Brothers Big Sisters of NH, Stacy shares updates, insights, and inspiration as we work together to empower New Hampshire’s youth through mentoring.

The last few weeks have certainly been a time to remember as our youth wrap up another academic school year and we continue to mourn over the tragic loss of so many young lives in Texas. As a mother of two young boys and a wife of a teacher, my heart is heavy thinking about the families that will not be able to see their children finish another school year.

Our youth have dealt with unimaginable circumstances the last few years and it is critical we continue to help them navigate this mental health crisis through mentorship. Fear, anxiety, depression, isolation and bullying are just a few of the things that our youth endure too often. Our mentoring program is a successful preventative approach to many of these issues facing youth today.

A Little Brother, age 11, recently shared with us, that the best part of his week is knowing he has an outing planned with his Big Brother. Mentorship creates a lasting friendship with a long-term impact. Nearly 200 youth are still waiting for a mentor to look forward to spending time with. As we head into the summer, we ask you to consider giving your time, talent or treasure to help us ignite potential in youth. Let your friends and family know too! Learn more about how you can help by visiting our website.

Speaking of summer, we have so much to look forward to! June officially marks Pride month and we hope to see some familiar faces at Portsmouth’s Pride event on Saturday, June 25 to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ youth and PRISM (Pride, Respect, Identity, Safety, and Mentoring) program. We are so excited to be Seacoast Outright’s Pride Partner of the Year!

Can’t join us for Pride? Volunteer with us July 8th – 10th at our 2nd Annual Pickleball Tournament! Last year is when I first learned about the sport sweeping the nation and let me tell you, it was such a blast to experience! For information about volunteering please reach out to Michalea at mkneuer@bbbsnh.org or use our sign up link! No pickleball experience required!

Stay tuned for more exciting things to come!

PS: A special shout out to Board Members, Matt Becker and Michael White, for marrying their passion of music and mentoring. They put together an amazing benefit concert this month at Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club featuring their band, YellowHouse Blues Band. This sold out event raised more than $47,000 for youth mentoring! We are so grateful to Matt, Mike and all of the sponsors who made this event possible!
